Entrepreneurship Grants – $12,000 To Help You Start Your Business

UPDATE: Applications for the first three entrepreneurship grants are now closed. Thank you to everyone who applied and congratulations to the winners! Deadline to apply for the next group of grants is 31 August 2017. Please note that your application may be displayed on a voting page so please do not include any sensitive information.

Over the next year, we will be awarding 12 entrepreneurship grants of $1,000 each to help budding business owners launch or grow their dream. Applications are open, so apply now!

Anyone can apply. Regardless of age or location.

If we award you one of our entrepreneurship grants, there are absolutely no strings attached. We don’t want shares, or you to stick our brand on your products, or anything. We’d love it if you would keep us informed and share how the money helped your business, but even that is not a requirement.

To apply all you need to do is write a short essay (under 1,500 words) or record a short video telling us about yourself and what the grant will enable you to do. Then send it to grants@arbing.co.uk with the subject header “Grant Application”.

Applications for the first three grants close 31st May 2017. So apply now!

What will the grant allow you to do?

  • Pay for the prototype of your great new product idea.
  • Give you the financial freedom to take an unpaid month off work to focus on your business.
  • Pay for you to visit four or five conferences for that all important networking.
  • Purchase the photography equipment needed for your business to compete.
  • Save you having to get a job while at university so you can spend your free time building your business.

The Arbing Blog’s entrepreneurship grants are open to anyone. Absolutely anyone. Housewife, retiree, student, teenager, city slicker. Anyone who has a passion project that they want to build and dream of turning it into their main source of income.

Never started a new business before? No problem, please apply! Got a small side hustle you want to take to the next level? Great! Let us help fund your growth.

Why Are We Doing This?

I love to hear about people quitting their job to build their dream business. In fact, that is why I started this website almost two and a half years ago. I document in detail my attempts to start businesses to help encourage you to do the same.

But all too often I hear the exact same excuses. Either: “I don’t have enough money” or “I don’t have enough time”.

So that is why I am creating The Arbing Blog’s entrepreneurship grants. To help you overcome that first hurdle.

If I can do that, while getting some extra publicity (and therefore extra income) for my blog then it’s a win-win.

$1,000 isn’t going to make or break your business. But if I manage to convince you to take that first step, I have done my job.

Probably The Easiest Grant Application Ever

We have tried to make it as easy as possible to enter. There really is no excuse:

  1. Record a short video, or write a short essay explaining who you are, what your business is and how you will spend the grant.
  2. Email your application to grants@arbing.co.uk with the subject “Grant Application”.  Important – applications with a different subject may be ignored.
  3. Winners will be emailed and paid via PayPal.
  4. Spend your grant.

Judging Process

We will pick the winners based on who we believe will get the most use out of the grant.

If not enough people apply to award all the grants then each applicant will be awarded one grant.

The finalists and winners will be chosen at the discretion of Sam Priestley. If other individuals or businesses decide to contribute to the grant fund, they will be invited to help choose the winners.

The finalists and winners will have their applications published here, including a link to their business.

The winners will be paid by PayPal.

Looking For Inspiration?

Here are some businesses I have tried to start.

  • Amazing initiative, Sam. This is such a great way to help people make that first step.

  • Michael

Hi Sam, I’ve been sharing this around my network, however most of us live in Canada, are there any restrictions on who qualifies? Thanks!

    • Thanks! Nope, there are no restrictions, anyone can apply

  • KingHear

Great stuff Sam. Even better than your financial generosity is the streamlined application process. Good ideas shouldn’t be encumbered by endless bureaucracy and mindless form filling!

  • Pekka

    This is really cool!
One thing: the graphic says you HAVE to record a video, the text says a 1,500-word essay would work, too.
    Which is correct?

    • You can do either a video or an essay (or both if you’re really keen).

      • Pekka

Great. Are pictures welcome in the writeup?
